Over the last three months, Beacon Center has continued to work actively to provide hope, safety, and resources for survivors of violence in our community. See below for a few of the things we have been up to:
Emergency Shelter Update
Dear Beacon Center Community,
These past three months have been very busy for Direct Service Staff, as we have had a full shelter. Today, we have all eight of our apartment units filled with 20 individuals fleeing violence. We have seen an increase in requests for assistance with protection orders and housing this quarter. We continue to provide safety and hope as our clients rebuild their lives after violence. Thank you for your continued support.
Best,
Oriel Ching
Direct Service Coordinator
Staff Changes and Milestones
We have been busy keeping up with staff this quarter!
Beacon Center’s current Executive Director, Dawn Sikkink, announced her plan to retire at the end of September. This was soon followed by the introduction of the incoming Executive Director, Donna Marchand. Donna joined our team in July and was mentored by Dawn to assume her role independently in October.
Additionally, we have celebrated a few staff milestones! Overnight Direct Services Assistant, Amanda Raml, celebrated 5 years of service and employment. Finance Assistant, Jessica Hvam, celebrated four years of service and employment. We also hired an additional Overnight Direct Services Assistant, Chloe Carlson.
Good things are happening here!
United Way
Beacon Center is proud to be a United Way partner agency.
Watertown Area United Way supports agency programs that provide education for all ages, better health in all forms, and establish financial stability for Watertown residents.
Beacon Center receives funding and support from the Watertown Area United Way each year. These unrestricted dollars enable Beacon Center to provide for each of the needs that our clients may face. Without this constant support, some of the services that Beacon Center offers would be eliminated.
As we are amid United Way’s campaign season, we wanted to recognize how grateful we are for the help and partnership of the Watertown Area United Way. Check out this year’s campaign video to learn more about United Way!
