The WHY!

Beacon Center hosts a WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES® to end rape, sexual assault, and gender violence while raising funds to continue supporting our clients. We ask the community to participate to show their support for Sexual Assault Awareness and Child Abuse Prevention Month. Everyone knows someone who has experienced rape, sexual assault, and gender violence--this event allows you to walk and show support for those people. Join us to honor them and to help raise funds for victims and survivors.

Denim Day began in 1992 after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because a victim was wearing tight jeans. The next day, women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity. The protest was picked up by international media and has continued annually ever since all around the world. It is now known as Denim Day, an event in which people are encouraged to wear jeans to raise awareness of rape and sexual assault.

Here's how it works:

  • Wear jeans/denim and submit your image to amber@beaconcentersd.com on 4/28.

  • Participant images will be posted to Beacon Center's Facebook Page throughout the day. Vote until 4/30, 4 pm CT.

  • Winner to be announced on 4/30, the last day of Beacon Center's Walk A Mile® Week.

The most liked image will win a pizza party with Wise Pizza!

*Some Restrictions Apply*
