Cell Phone Donation Drive

The Cell Phone Drive is a collection drive through which people donate their used cell phones (with or without chargers) to the Beacon Center. We in turn distribute the working phones to clients as 911 phones.

The most dangerous point in an abusive relationship is leaving it, and the likelihood of violent assault may increase substantially during this time. Access to emergency services can be critical to a victim in transition. Even a cell phone without an active service plan can be used to call 911, meaning that help for these clients need never be far away.

Any phones that don't work are shipped to an environmentally friendly recycling company, which in turn gives us money that goes directly back into our programs.

For more information, see the FAQ below.

What Kind of Items Can I Donate?

We accept working and non-working cell phones, cell phone batteries, and AC chargers. You can donate a phone without a charger as well.

We cannot accept any cell phone accessories, such as car chargers, hands-free devices, or spare faceplates. You do not need to include your manual with your donation.

How to Donate Your Phone

We encourage you to erase all personal information from your phone prior to donation. This will expedite our processing of these phones so that we can get them to the clients who need them while preserving your safety and security as well. Consult your phone manual or ask your cellular service provider for instructions on how to wipe your phone and reset your settings to the factory defaults; please note that some phones have a master reset function and some do not, so check your outgoing/incoming calls, text messages, picture mail, as well as your calendar and contacts to be sure that all information has been deleted.

You can mail your phone(s) to the address below or drop them off in person between the hours of 9:00 A.M and 5:00 P.M or 12 pm to 5 pm on weekends. Please email Angie Meseberg at angie@wrcinwtn.com or call 605-886-4304 to schedule a drop-off time.
